Coming back after an injury

Slow is a real pace.

Coming back after an injury, a surgery, or just a long time away is harder than starting from zero. You remember what you used to be able to do, and that gap is discouraging.

Here's the honest version: it's normal to feel slower than you expected. It doesn't mean you're failing.

Talk to your doctor or physiotherapist before you come back, especially if the injury is recent. They know your situation. We don't, and we won't pretend to.

Been a member for 6 months or more? You can pause while you heal: send us a note and we'll put your account on hold.

When you're cleared to come back, start smaller than feels necessary. Ten minutes walking. One machine, light weight. That's a real first session.

Add a little each visit, not each day. A few extra minutes, or one more machine, once your body says it's ready.

If something hurts, not the normal tired-muscle feeling but a sharp or wrong feeling, stop. Ask your doctor before you push through it.

If a machine has you stumped, the card on it will walk you through. Starting light is normal here. Nobody's counting the plates on your bar.

The floor is quiet enough that easing back in doesn't feel like a performance. Most people are doing their own thing and not watching you.

There's no schedule to fall behind on here. Come back at your own pace, on your own days.

If you're not sure whether you're ready, that question is for your doctor, not for us. We just keep the gym open when you are.
